Cold Water Gear - Requirements based on conditions.

Paddling in the winter or early spring can be a especially challenging. Because of the danger of cold shock, cold collapse and hypothermia, the risks of immersion are serious. The primary concern is the temperature of the water. We follow the 60/120 rule: if the water temperature is below 60-F or if the water plus air temperature is below 120-F special protection is manditory. See our Quick Class on Clothing selection for more information.

SKSA offers cold weather tours only for the more advanced paddlers who have properly chosen and properly fitted gear and are familiar with its use. See us for special lessions and contacts if you are interested in these advanced opportunities.
